Sustainable Business Strategies - basic
This training explores how data spaces can support innovation, growth and sustainability in cities and communities. Participants will work through practical exercises to better understand how data spaces can create value for local ecosystems and support sustainable smart community development. The session includes practical exercises and interactive collaboration.
Regulatory Compliance and Safeguards
This training introduces regulatory compliance and safeguards for data spaces, with an overview of the current EU digital regulatory landscape and how to identify which rules may apply based on the data, participants, use cases and technologies involved. Through an interactive workshop and group discussion, participants identify key legal and compliance challenges, reflect on their own data space or use case, and begin mapping possible next steps. The session also introduces the contractual framework for data spaces and concludes with suggested follow-up work, including continued collaboration with legal experts and pilot teams.
Green Deal Regulations and Policies
This lecture introduces key EU environmental regulations that matter for data spaces and explains how they are connected to the European Green Deal and smart community priorities. It covers relevant policy areas such as climate action, energy transition, mobility, circular economy, buildings, air quality, water management and biodiversity. The session also shows how data spaces can support compliance, transparency, sustainability and innovation, while helping cities and stakeholders better understand the cost of inaction.
In-person training: Bootcamp event in Ljubljana
This in-person bootcamp supports DS4SSCC-DEP pilot teams in developing stronger local data spaces and preparing for federation and long-term sustainability. The training combines business, governance and technical work, helping participants refine data products, business models, governance structures and technical implementation choices. It includes joint sessions, dedicated track work, pilot presentations and peer exchange to support practical progress across the participating pilots.
Business & Governance Track:
The technical track focuses on the implementation aspects of smart community data spaces, building on the DS4SSCC Blueprint and its technical pillars. Participants work on topics such as ODRL implementation, technical governance, Verifiable Credentials, federation theory, semantics, data models and SIMPL. The sessions are designed to help pilots understand key technical choices, prepare for interoperability and explore practical steps towards local and federated data space deployment.
Joint Sessions:
The joint sessions bring all participants together to align on key concepts, share progress and connect the technical, business and governance perspectives. They include workshop framing, pilot presentations, federation concepts, group formation, peer exchange and closing reflections. These sessions help pilots learn from each other, identify common challenges and explore opportunities for collaboration across use cases, domains and geographies.
Common Purpose and Balanced Power Dynamics
This workshop introduces governance in data spaces, with a focus on common purpose, balanced power dynamics and the role of the Multi-Stakeholder Governance Scheme in building trusted local data ecosystems. Participants explore the roles and responsibilities of data space participants, including participatory, intermediary and governing roles, and discuss how governance frameworks help define access, accountability and oversight. The session includes group work and use-case discussions to help pilots map stakeholders, identify roles and reflect on governance questions in their own context.
Creating Win-Win Solutions for All Stakeholders in Your Data Space
This workshop focuses on creating win-win solutions for stakeholders in a data space by looking at governance structures, collaboration models and their connection to business models. Participants work with the Data Cooperation Canvas and explore value propositions, stakeholders, data and infrastructure, resources, data collaboration models and possible revenue streams. The session includes interactive practical work for further developing governance frameworks and business models.
