This lecture introduces the high-level architecture for smart communities data spaces and how existing city and community systems can evolve towards a data space approach. It covers the minimal components needed for deployment, including trust, authorization, federation and connectors, and outlines recommended steps for pilot implementation and onboarding into the EU Data Space.
Technical Pillars - advanced
This training provides a deep dive into the high-level architecture for smart communities data spaces, building on the previous technical sessions and focusing on practical implementation questions. Participants discuss the minimal components needed for deployment, including the Universal Trust Data Registry, Authorization Policies Store, federation layer and data space connectors, as well as the use of proposed Blueprint components. The session also includes interactive practical work related to the technical topics discussed.
Introduction to Minimal Interoperability Mechanisms (MIMs) Plus
This lecture introduces Minimal Interoperability Mechanisms (MIMs) Plus and explains how they help establish a minimal but sufficient level of interoperability between systems, services and data spaces. Participants learn what MIMs are, how they are governed and developed, and how they can be used to support procurement, data exchange and the development of interoperable smart community solutions.
In-person training: Bootcamp event in Ljubljana
This in-person bootcamp supports DS4SSCC-DEP pilot teams in developing stronger local data spaces and preparing for federation and long-term sustainability. The training combines business, governance and technical work, helping participants refine data products, business models, governance structures and technical implementation choices. It includes joint sessions, dedicated track work, pilot presentations and peer exchange to support practical progress across the participating pilots.
Agenda and pre-assignments:
It provides the agenda and preparation package for the DS4SSCC Ljubljana Bootcamp. It outlines the two-day in-person training structure, covering business and governance sessions, technical sessions, and joint work on federation and sustainability. A key focus of the document is the pre-assignments for pilots, including stakeholder mapping, governance and participation management overviews, use case descriptions, data product definitions, and technical preparation tasks, so that the bootcamp sessions could build directly on the pilots’ prior work.
Joint Sessions:
The joint sessions bring all participants together to align on key concepts, share progress and connect the technical, business and governance perspectives. They include workshop framing, pilot presentations, federation concepts, group formation, peer exchange and closing reflections. These sessions help pilots learn from each other, identify common challenges and explore opportunities for collaboration across use cases, domains and geographies.
Technical Track
The technical track focuses on the implementation aspects of smart community data spaces, building on the DS4SSCC Blueprint and its technical pillars. Participants work on topics such as ODRL implementation, technical governance, Verifiable Credentials, federation theory, semantics, data models and SIMPL. The sessions are designed to help pilots understand key technical choices, prepare for interoperability and explore practical steps towards local and federated data space deployment.
